About Angus

In 2005 I graduated from Elam School of Fine Arts, at the University of Auckland, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts majoring in painting, then spent time in Japan teaching English and exploring Japanese art and culture.

I exhibited at Black Barn Gallery in Havelock North and in 2006 trekked to the Mt Everest Base Camp in Nepal and  spent some time in Kathmandu .

My next working assignment was first in North Carolina, USA on a Christmas tree lot, from Thanksgiving to mid December 2007 , then in a New York City pie shop in Brooklyn . During this 6 week stay  I visited a multitude of galleries and was able to catch up with my mentor, Max Gimblett, at home on the Bowery. A fantastic time in one of my favourite cities.

In 2007 I entered the prestigious Park Lane Investments Art Award in Auckland and was awarded one of the five top awards.

In the meantime I was a regular exhibitor at the Emerge Gallery in Wellington and at the Morgan Street Gallery in Auckland, staging a successful solo show there in 2008.

Quay Gallery at Ahuriri, Napier, www.quaygallery.co.nz, took me on in 2008,  with a solo show in August 2009 and in December 2011, through Quay Gallery, I was delighted to be included in the Vero 2012 calendar along with works by Rita Angus, Allen Maddox and Fatu Feu'u. Illustrious company !

CEO of Vero Gary Dransfield says " This year's calendar showcases some of our finest contemporary artists and their inspiring works."

You will find my work now at Quay Gallery, Napier and as of November 2016 at Aesthete Gallery in Hamilton, www.aesthete.co.nz , one of New Zealand's top dealer galleries. I am looking forward to working with Lyn, Lynden and Mark and being introduced to the Waikato art scene. For now I am living, working, and painting in Wellington, and loving life. Please feel free to contact me.

Cheers,   Angus
